There are a lot of very good "pet immune" motion detectors around and
they work very well. Most systems begin with door contacts on all
exterior doors and a couple trap motion detectors on the interior. Don't
bother with window contacts in most circumstances. Use glassbreak
detectors to cover glass.

Use a modern control with the features, options and expandability for
future needs. I generally use Caddx NX models. It supports hardwire and
wireless and will integrate with X-10 controls. (www.caddx.com) Do not
use Radio Shack stuff, it's junk. All modern controls have digital
communicators for monitoring whether used or not. Wireless is a lot more
expensive.

Your basic system cost should start at about $900 and go up as far as
you want it to. (Material only would be about $ 350) That's for
control, 9 doors, two motions, two keypads, two siren speakers.

If you live in California, Northeast, or Florida triple all costs. Be
careful of "Free Installations", you will pay a lot more through the
inflated monitoring contracts and add-ons.
