You might try wrapping the barrel with a few turns of heat trace cable.
Industrial use includes wrapping water and other solution lines to keep
them from freezing... it's available in different temperature ranges and
you could even add a thermostat... it's also available in different
voltages 120, 240 etc
If you know a commercial or industrial electrician, he could probably come
up with 20-30' or so for free that's left over after a pipe wrap job.
