bolt shear strength summary

it boils down to two theories..

shear is calculated as follows

theory # 1

tensile x 0.75 = proof
proof    x 0.65 = shear strength

theory # 2

shear = 60 % of tensile...


either way I'm in the range....  or I could just go to a 5/8 or 3/4" bolt
!!!
