You could try the sports industry. Astroturf type football fields sometimes
have shockpads beneath them depending on the sport. If you can find a local
contractor constructing them you may be able to get some spare material
from a contract. The pads can come in roll or tile form up to an inch and a
half thick. They deal in areas of around two acres to a pitch. Being from
the UK I can't suggest any names.
More available, but probably also more expensive, would be playground
safety tiles. See

http://www.world-playground.com/comsurfacing.htm for more than you'll need.
The tiles are up to four inches thick and designed to cushion falls from up
to ten feet. Different thicknesses are designed to protect against falls
from different types of play equipment. Not cheap but they'd last you a
lifetime and would be portable from house to house.
