Howdy,

It's me again, the guy that asked about winding garage door springs.

Just got done tightening up the spring.

I appreciate that this is dangerous and all, but its pretty damned easy to
do. If you're comfortable jacking a car up in the air, letting it down on
jackstands, then working underneath it then you should be comfortable with
this. I think you're much more likely to knock the car onto yourself than
you are to have a problem with the garage door.

The only thing I'd add to the various stuff I read is that you want to put
a pair of vice grips on the shaft (not the spring), such that the shaft
won't turn when you're winding the spring. This isn't because of anything
to do with safety, its just to prevent the lift wire coming off the drum,
causing you to need to get someone else to hold some tension in the spring
so that you can reseat it.

Otherwise, its just like it looks, totally straight forward, doesn't
require much effort to move, etc.

Easy.

Mark

(and, if you're an idiot and decide based on this that you can still do
this and end up get killed because your cat scares you off the ladder or
something, don't call me. :-)
