Testing auto battery chargers

Does anyone know how you could test/troubleshoot an automatic float battery
tender?

I have a bunch of them (all different brands and such) and just recently, 2
batteries that I had on them went kaput.

I don't know if the tender did it or the batteries just died.  So I wanted
to test them before I put them back on another battery.
