| Subject: | Will dimmers kill compact fluorescent bulbs? |

Hello, Yesterday my wife bought two CF bulbs (from Ikea) and put them into a ceiling light fixture that happened to be controlled by a dimmer. The dimmer didn't really dim them- if you turned it down below some threshold, the bulbs simply turned off. This evening I tried turning on the lamp, and neither bulb would work at all! (A third bulb in the fixture, a normal incandescent, still worked fine.) So, could the dimmer have somehow killed the CF bulbs, or is it just a coincidence, and I should avoid buying light bulbs from Ikea? Doug |
