Since we've mentioned compressor-type electric motors; what is the effect of
the "compressor" rating on continuous power output?  I assume they are
designed to handle a high peak-to-average power ratio (because of the
pulsating nature of the compressor load), but is the rated power for the
peak or the average ?  

IOW, can a "5hp compressor" motor drive a 5hp continuous load without
overheating ?
