Joe,
I have the same problem with my spit. It starts right up after a day or two
of sitting, but three or more days takes a bit of cranking. I haven't looked
into it much, but I did notice yesterday some stains on my intake manifold
that might be a gasoline leak.
Please let me know what your solution is.

Make sure that the fuel is not leaking out of the carb bowls (if I
remember correctly there is a hose fitting on the underside of each
bowl). Check the condition of the hose and the fitting. Even a slow
leak will dry out the bowls overnight.
