Greetings.
Attached is a BMP with my humble attempt at describing the wire layout
of the aforementioned starter solenoid.
I created the picture because the wiring diagram on p258 of the Haynes
manual doesn't exactly match what I find on the car, nor does any of the
other diagrams in the book.

To wit (but not all), the starter solenoid is drawn with 2 large posts,
and two small ones. Neatly arranged top and bottom, side to side.

Aaaagh.  This is NOT what is on the car.

1.  If so, do I have the wrong part on my firewall?
2.  If I have the right part, then why doesn't the extra wire I have
work right?

There is this small matter of a white/yellow stripe wire that goes to
the +Coil.  This is sort of critical to the ignition working.
However, if I hook it to either small terminal (see drawing) on the left
side, the flipping key can be taken out of the car and she still runs. 
This is not good.  Also it has a tendency to leave the starter motor
engaged the entire time.  This is also not desired.

My solution was to wire a separate 12v straight from the battery into
said WY wire, which allows the 6v coil to get what it is wanting (eg 12v
at start, 6v for running).  This arrangement also allows the starter
motor to operate as I think it should, ie: turns off when the key is
placed in the "II" position after the engine catches.

Could one of you great folks please go take a look at your solenoid and
a) tell me I'm full of it (which I usually am) or b) instruct me in the
fine art of divining a British diagram.  That WY wire is in the diagram,
but not in the manner which I have it currently wired.
