Just thought I'd give everyone an update on my sagging doors problem.
Perhaps my solution will be of interest to some of you.
To remedy the sag, I replaced the sloppy top hinge with a "new" tight hinge
and installed washers as spacers between the bottom hinge and where it
meets the door. I used one thin washer on each of the three bolts, which
actually affected the position of the door quite a bit (it almost
over-corrected the sag, which was surprising for such a small change).
I tried this as an alternative to a suggestion from an all-brand
experienced car guy, who suggested I use a light jack, like the scissor
jack that you keep in your boot, to slowly jack the open door until it
twists enough at the hinges to bring it into alignment. Apparently this is
a tried-and-true method of door-straightening used in body shops,
especially on cars whose hinges are welded and cannot be repaired or
adjusted. Anyone ever try this?
