I've had to deal with stripped water pump studs on my '73 Spit. I used
Helicoil inserts to do the fix. You can buy the kit at your local hardware
or auto store. Basically all you do is drill the thread hole slightly
larger than it is now and insert a threaded "coil" with the tool that comes
with the kit. The coil then provides a fresh, new thread for the bolt.
