Jeff,

The usual way to remove a double-ended stud is to thread two nuts onto
the free thread, and tighten them against each other.  You can then turn
the lower nut (to remove, upper nut to tighten) to rotate the stud.
However, you seem not to have very much stud sticking out, from what you
say in your message, and this process does assume you have enough thread
available to thread two nuts on.  If this is the case, I'm not sure what
you can do - maybe a nut 'n' bolt supplier will be able to supply some
thin nuts?

Richard & Daffy (just fitted a new SS exhaust at lunchtime - much better
than the old holey one, but it's vibrating against the chassis, so will
need a little fettling!)
