The answer is, "Probably not!"  Reason being that the MkIV has a 3 rail gearbox 
and the '79 1500 uses a single rail gearbox.  With
their OD units attached, the two are slightly different in length.  One end of 
the '79's shaft has that CV joint and there is no slider
to accommodate small changes in the length.

Therefore it is not likely that it will fit.

Recommendation:  Get an earlier drive shaft with a sliding joiont and size it 
to fit.
