How about having original belts re-webbed? Pros? Cons?

Don't do it!

Every vehicle I've ever restored gets new seat belts.
You never know how stressed or worn the old belts are.
The belt material is designed to give... ONCE.
(width given up for length (like the Chinese finger vise toy)
If they're old and dry or sun faded you never know how well
they'll perform... if at all. They may just rip.
It's not worth the chance. Twice in my life seat belts
have saved my butt. Once rolling a Spitfire....
the second when a Tracker Trailer used my MG BGT
as a soccer ball, not once but three kicks down the highway
(story of the BGT on my web site YB info bottom of the page)
On the GT the seat ripped out of the floor...the seat belt
kept me AND the seat in place.

I'm sure other 'experienced' listers (and any racer) will tell you
the same thing. Use 'known' GOOD belts!

Good morning all,

I am planning to give myself functioning seat belts for my 76 Spit this
Christmas and I wondered if anyone on the list has had any experience
using belts from cars from a junkyard - it seems that most belts are of
a pretty standard design (excepting those that try to strangle you when
you close the door) and would therefore be easily adaptable to the spit
and hopefully a little cheaper than the new retractables from the Big 3.
Anybody tried this?

TIA,

Gary Hutton
76 - 1500 "Stinky" (per my 8-yr. old daughter)
