Why guess, go to your local auto parts store and have it tested. Most of the
testers I have seen recently show if the diode pack is
bad. This, by the way appears to be the major problem with these units. I
opted for a lifetime warranty rebuilt unit for about $75.
It has worked fine for 4 years but if it does fail, I'm covered.
