I'm probably wrong here but doesn't the water and
antifreeze lubricate the pump. A leaking pump
indicates another problem altogether.

Ok, Here's one for fun.... What should I grease the
water pump with? After
owning several antique cars with greasable pumps, I
still haven't figured what
type grease to use. My Alemite Water Pump Grease
appears to be about 50 years
old, so I don't trust it. I have used regular
chassis grease in the past, but
need to know exactly what should be used- I had one
start leaking after I did
that!
