Here, here, Scott! I second the notion.

My friend used to carry a hand held spot light that
put out 1 million candle power light. He'd flash it to
people that had super-bright lights and/or had their
high beams on for no apparent reason but to blind you.
I finally told him "Do you really think that they get
it? I mean, they're stupid enough to blind someone
heading TOWARDS them at speeds exceeding 40 miles per
hour. Do you think they're going to understand why
you're flashing them? At most they'll slow down
because they're going to think you're signaling them
there's a speed trap ahead. And at least, you're going
to blind them worse then they're blinding you and
you're going to have a head on collision. Half of
these people are in SUV's and I doubt that they even
know they have High Intensity bulbs, any more than
they know what displacement or # of cylinders in their
engine." -the speech went something like that anyhow.

Eventually he stopped. But I later found out that his
father's practice was to regularly adjust his REARVIEW
mirror while standing behind the car so that it would
reflect the headlights of people in SUV's behind him.
(he, the father, was an FBI agent....And I'm the
uneducated red-neck...Sheayah.) I need to find a
desert island.

ANYHOOO...
I too have found that some back roads that are too
dark for your regular incandescent lights to be useful
for seeing more than 30 feet ahead of you. And I think
that a set of higher output lights would be welcome on
overcast/moonless/starless/unlit/tree-lined narrow
back roads. I'm using sealed Halogens ($8-14/ea? pep
boys) and they are less than adequate for the above
conditions, but they're usable and slightly better
than incandescents (I just have alltogther bad
vision).

My suggestion is that you don't super intensify your
turnsignals/brake lamps/running lamps/headlamps. All
that will do is cost you money to annoy people that
you may or may not want to annoy.

JC whitney sells HID systems, Halogen w/seperate
element bulbs, fog lights and an assortment of
accessory lights if you're interested. And wire them
through a switch that you can flip off for oncoming
traffic. And you can get H4 bulbs w/Xenon for like $12
ea. to use in some of them, and they probably have the
same lights and cheaper through your local auto parts
place.
