Ok, you scientists. I've got one for ya.

I got a catback exhaust system for my '89 Golf. 2.25"
mandrel bent, aluminized w/ (3) three mufflers. Center
pipe is double wall like a glass pack, resonator in
front of axle, dual outlet muff behind.

It is advertised for GTI's.

So, what's my problem? At 3500 rpm it is almost
silent. Nearly as quiet as stock. If I had the gear
ratios that come in the GTI it would be perfect for
cruising at 65MPH.

I have long legged gears. 3000 RPM at 70. This is
where the exhaust is loudest :(

Easy solution is to drive everywhere at 85 MPH, but I
don't think that would last long though.

Will changing the length or diameter of the tailpipes
change the RPM where it runs silent? longer/ shorter?
Smaller or larger diameter? I need to make it silent
at 3000 RPM, 500 lower than where it is now.

Hope someone has some ideas. Thanks.
