I'm going to guess the solenoids are the same for both
J types. I know the D type uses a different solenoid.
For sure gear oil will run out when you remove them.

Is the solenoid of a J type OD in a Spitfire, the
same as the
solenoid in
a Stag J type OD?
If so, if I remove them (and swap) is tranny fluid
going to pour out
all over
the place?
