Howard - Trunion hole becoming enlongated would definitely happen with this
slight twisting action.  Makes sense.

Richard - Actually, after I bought the car, I did find evidences of a right
side impact on this car - Front hood hinge cover had to be pounded back in
shape, front frame right corner had been bent, non-original engine hood and
a slight wrinkle in the side of the frame where the lower A-arm is attached.
This would explain the use of 5 shims at that point of attachment.  Oh, also
the shock absorber on that side was bent and inoperable.  This did make me
wonder if the vertical links were bent, but I did't think that was possible
without cracking it.  In retropect, I realized now that the suspension had
already been partially rebuilt/replaced, perhaps due to the PO accident..?  

Doug - Maybe you and Richard are onto something here.  I didn't think the
vertical link could be bent... so perhaps I need to cough up the dough$$ for
a new one to test this theory.  I will check tonight the alignment of the
threaded portion with the upper mount point.
