The bellhousing which caught his eye at the time was the thin wall type, so I 
don't really know if he was being specific about that type or the alloy 
bellhousings in general (I suspect the former). The thin wall type has never 
given me any problems (other than amplifying the gearbox noise) in any of the 
cars I've had fitted with them, though none of theses has been more powerful 
than a stock 1300 - I'm sure Standard-Triumph had very good reasons for going 
to the thicker casting. The thick wall bellhousing is actually very uncommon in 
the UK - I've had just one pass through my hands and that was attached to an 
engine and gearbox which were imported from the US!
