Fred,
I had a 1098cc Midget that did the same thing , but
I only had 5-10 PSI at idle "hot" . I tried an oil cooler. It helped
very little . I then rebuilt the engine
with new mains, rod and cam bearings. Still it had
low oil pressure. I was 16 yrs old at the time (20yrs ago) and it never
occurred to me to change the oil pump. I did check that the oil pressure
relief valve
was properly seating and even tried shimming the spring . All that did
was to make the cold start up oil
pressure ~90PSI . Hot idle oil pressure had no improvment.I finally gave
up and just drove the car.
60,000 miles latter I burned an exhaust valve (leaky
manifold) At the same time as I had a valve job done
I dropped the oil pan and checked the bearings, all
looked good. I put it back together and drove it for several more yrs.
before finally selling it.The car
probably still has low oil pressure :)
