I just had to replace my rear axle housing because a DPOM (...previous
owner's mechanic) stripped the axle nut threads on the left side
(left-hand thread) and then welded on the nut.

Following the advice from the web page of Mike Gigante's LBC club, I
bought some fully sealed bearings. After installing them in the hub s and
on the axle, I had NOTICABLE play in the bearing when grabbing the wheel
studs and rocking the hub. I verified that the play was actually in the
bearings, cursed and ordered stock bearings. These exhibited the same
play!!! I always thought wheel bearings were essentially playless.
I reinstalled the sealed bearings.

Can anyone comment on the play in the bearings? The ones that were
installed really weren't that much worse than the new ones...
