Wow - You're a beginner and you replaced a wiring harness?! That's
pretty good!
I must have the same schematic, because I can't help with your first
problem, but I have some comments regarding your switch. I understand
your reluctance to trust a part that has already failed you once, and if
you really would feel better with a new one, you can get one, but I
don't think it's necessary. Most of the electrical problems I've had
have been corrected by cleaning the contacts on the switch or component.
Whether you opt for a new switch or not, I recommend you also clean the
contacts on everything else you can think of (including and especially
the fuse box) as a preventive measure. It will prevent many future
headaches.
