The "hot" wire should NOT go to the sending unit.
The hot wire (solid green) goes from switched battery to terminal "B" on
the fuel gauge. The green/black wire goes from terminal "T" (tank) to
the sending unit.
Make sure the gauge and sender are grounded. If you hooked it up
backwards and sent 12 volts thru the sender you probably melted the thin
wire in there. (80% of all sender failures) It can be fixed if you are
handy with a soldering iron.
If your new sender is a "Moprod" brand, throw it out, they just don't
work.
