Bob,
not sure but I think they must.
My brother was having starting probs with his dellorto carb and in the space 
of about 3 weeks he had thouroughly mashed the cog on the starter and the 
ring gear looked pretty sad too.
He replaced the S.U.s and the starter cog (in that order)
