I managed to make it to the LBC show today at Ameristar Casino in Council
Bluffs. A buddy was drafted to provide top down transportation (a Jeep),
because Molly is awaiting fulcrum pins and wishbones to complete her
front end rebuild. Thanks to everyone who offered advice and assistance.
I owe particular thanks to Peter C at World Wide Auto for scrambling to
get the parts out on Friday before closing, and to Ed at Just Brits for
some helpful guidance.
The day dawned cheerful and bright, humidity close to one zillion, and
rather warm at 80F when I cut the lawn at 0830. It was 90F by the time
we made it to the show. I wore my Spridgets@autox.team.net shirt (which
I should not have gotten in black, FWIW), but didn't run into anyone from
the list. I did run into my junior high shop teacher, though, which made
me feel mighty old. He had his MGA there, "Old Blue." Not a show car,
but a solid, kinda rough, driver.
Triumphs and MGs were the heavy entrants, with about 30-35 cars total.
Other interesting cars were a '48 Hillman Minx, a older Morris Minor,
Lotus Elan, Lotus Europa (my jury's still out on that one), a
Jensen-Healy, and a Sunbeam Tiger w/260 Ford power (lovely!). There was
also a fascinating old and huge Triumph, can't recall the model, but it
had two jump seats in the trunk, and a wonderful wooden dash. Only a few
Spridgets, but the ones there were drivers -- no trailer queens. In
fact, I didn't see any trailers at the event.
Not much in the way of used parts, but I did latch on to a used choke
cable, a set of MG logo floor mats, and another head for Maggie, the 74.5
MGB.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go rub some ointment on my sunburn.
