What a great group of guys! I had the pleasure of meeting all three of
these gentlemen last evening at Peter's "Supply House for Sportscar
Junkies" in Madison Friday night and we had a ball. If you want shocks
rebuilt CORRECTLY this is the place! We all had to leave early if we
wanted to get on the road to Elkhart Lake Saturday morning but noone
really wanted to go. Poor Ron was looking for some thawed agates today
at the races; sidecurtains? what sidecurtains!?

Saturday dawned bright and clear and Frank and Ron were already on the
road while I was prepping my bugeye for its first real outing; this
would be 200 miles roundtrip and only 300 miles on the rebuilt engine.
Top down, layered clothing, and the heater door open kept the morning
chill at bay. Man, I had forgotten how great life in a Sprite could
be. It has been 8 years since we made the trip from Burlington to Road
America.
I was worried about the 4.22 rearend at 65mph on the freeway but my
fears were unfounded. The bone stock 948 with stock gearbox never
missed a beat. 200 miles at mostly 4200-4500rpm's and the oil pressure
never went below 58 psi ( except at idle of course ). I feel like I've
just flown the Atlantic; I can only imagine Frank's elation at his 1400
mile journey!

The fall colors were a spectacular setting for the races. After 2 hours
of the being in the Sprite I was immediately persuaded to ride in a
Shelby GT 350, for which my son turns a wrench, and it was sensory
overload; 8000rpms & 10 times the horsepower!!!! Anyone have a
supercharger they want to give away?!

I eventually found Frank, Ron, & Peter at the Brat stand where Frank had
already been introduced to Brats and Beer. They had been touring with
Thicko's Gary and WST and were full of good stories. We lined up our
cars and I took some digital pix and if someone can tell me where to
send them, we can all take a look.

I am writing this today as Ron's backup. When I left Clarici & Soave
were being corrupted by nefarious members of the Brotherhood of Thicko's
and we may never hear from them again. Could the Vulture be lurking??
I hope that when I return on the morrow, they will be safe at Ron's home
repairing a rather noisy timing chain in preparation for Frank's
departure on Monday.

To all whom I met this weekend; Thanks for a great time! Oh, and if
anyone has a question on which way to install the rear bumperettes on a
Bugeye can ask Ron!
sorry Ron, I couldn't resist.

Safety First & Fast,
Dave
