I had this inthe back of my mind too--When I bought my '79 the PO's mechanic
had installed the clutch disk in backward. I didnt know anything was wrong
until I couldnt locate a banging noise coming fromthe rear of the engine that
I misdiagnosed as an exhaust pipe loose and banging. Actually, the springs
onthe disk were banging against the flywheel bolts counterclockwise and had
loosened them, rendering the flywheel sloppy. That is not good.
End result was that I had to pull the engine and do the complete job over,
including a replacement tranny. Only thing different was that the clutch
didnt feelmuch different. I would think back to be sure the disk is in
properly and not backwards..
