In England a half shaft is what you guys call an axle.  You only get 
halfshafts in a live axle car which would be RWD with the halfshafts in an 
axle casing (like the Spridget).  Any other type of shaft transmitting power 
to the wheels from a diff is a driveshaft whether FWD, RWD or 4WD.
