Here's one to blown your mind... My Street Stock race car was switched
over to Amsoil synthetic oil at the beginning of its second season after
the motor heated up and cracked a head in the last race of the first
season. After a full teardown and rebuild, new heads, the Amsoil was
added. This car was raced in 15 races that season and then parked for 3
years. When I dragged it out of mothballs this September we had so many
changes we had to make to comply with the rules, we overlooked changing
the oil. Would you believe we ran two 50 lap races with this three year
old oil, and not one problem. The engine has 60 psi hot oil pressure,
190 F for water temperature, and still clear and clean after all that
use. A guess what...I still haven't changed the oil(although I did sneak
a sample out to a friend at the University test lab, and he confirmed it
to be stable and similar to a sample of new, unused oil).Seems another
feature of synthetic oil is that it does not absorb water, thus the oil
has not thinned or lost its useful properties.YMMV
