i have had some sucess using a double flaring tool. i have found that it
was prone to doing the second step of inverting the flare off sides . this
is a tool marketed by mac tools. i found that if you take 2 large washers
and insert one on each side of the threaded press piece between the horse
shoe shaped part and the die to assist the centering of the press (i cannot
come up with a better description right now) over the tubing when inverting
the bubble into a double flare.

this has eliminated the offside misshaped double flares. it was happening
in all sizes of tubing. this tool looks like all of the others i have seen
from tool vendors and at swap meets in the "tiawan" tool sale tents.

recently i purchased a bubble flaring tool. i had been using a standard
double flaring tool and just stoping with the bubble as a finished product.
the bubble flaring tool looks identical to the double flaring tool with the
exception that all of the bubble dies are marked as metric instead of in
fractional inches as in the double flare tool.

ok so i tried out the bubble flare tool and shure enough it makes nicer
bubble flares than the double flare tool does. and my dies are not worn
out, looked into that too! i now have both tools . i really did not want
to purchase the second flaring tool as they are not real cheap. visually i
can not see the difrence in the contour of the dies in the two sets but the
finished product speaks for itself. i have not seen the tool in the flier
but have conceeded to owning what i have so i can custom make correct length
lines without splicing 2 together or making amusing shapes to use up
excessive footage between 2 fittings with lines that are too long.

having a custom made line looks very nice or not noticable(like it is
suposed to be) on a restoration.

chuck.
