Dashpot oil

It was declared in a differet thread:

While running, what difference does dashpot oil thickess make when the
throttle is opened a constant amount?  Seems to me that the dashpot oil only
serves to keep the piston from moving too quickly when the throttle changes.
Keeping this in mind, I've been using cheap ol' 3-in-1 oil, as opposed to
the official Moss SU fluid, or ATF, which burns with a foul odor.
