dumb question for day

Cleaning up for the night last evening, decided to put knock off hub out of
harms way....its off the drivers (USA) side rear wheel.  It said "right
side".  I ruminated that for a minute and checked the other rear, of course
it was embossed "left side".  I then thought maybe DPO had reversed the axle
shafts and hubs.....but then checked the front wheels and they are same as
rear.....drivers side being "right"  and pass side being "left".  Is it
supposed to be this way?
