as far as drilling and tapping a hole for a fitting goes,
yes you can IF the joint is the type that has a cast boss in the center for
a fitting. some joints are not designed to have passages all the way through
from one side to another and can not be greased unless you disassemble the
entire joint clean and repack all 4 cups 1 at a time as not to mix
components. and i will admit to having tried this once or twice and each
time i thought i was going to escape purchasing a "new"joint i found enough
wear in the joints to warrant throwing them away and purchasing new joints
anyway! if you can drill and tap the existing joint, be carefull since you
will need the odd long type of fitting to screw into the joint or it will
not be acessable even if unbolted and flexed to an extreme. the other
choice might be to use a pin point grease gun adapter and carefully aim and
hold tightly against the check ball on the grease fitting to pressure fill
the joint if you must install a short fitting.
