I'd bet five buck you've blown a gasket. Did you do your test with the motor
hot? If your steaming out the case, something has to be shot.

Yep, a few weeks ago I noticed some of that grimy oil\water solution under
the valve cap, no big deal its just condensation right?
Nope, found the same stuff in the radiator, on the dip stick and again under
the valve cap. When the engine warmed up I was getting steam out the
tailpipe, out the vented valve cover cap (looked liked a geyser!), and out
the crankcase ventilation hose (not hooked up to a PCV valve, just pointed
down towards the road)
I ran a compression test and I think I passed with flying colors... here are
the results (rounded to the nearest fifth) averaged over 6 readings on all 4
cylinders. All tests done with throttle WIDE open, air filter off, and all
spark plugs out.
Without oil
1) 160
2) 155
3) 150
4) 160
With a tablespoon of motor oil down each plug hole.
1) 185
2) 180
3) 175
4) 180
My dad is stumped. He and I agree that when head gaskets blow, or heads
crack, they always do so outwards from a combustion chamber where the
pressure is greatest. Thus showing up in the compression tests.
I am in the process of flushing both the oil system, and coolant system
separately. I will then top up with fresh oil (and new oil filter) and pure
water and try to replicate the oil\water gunk.
Does anybody have any leads? Theories?

Toby, who is heading to Pep Boys to get some cheap motor oil... its useful
to flush the oil system a few times with it, then top up with the good
stuff. (Valvoline Racing oil! Is that extra 25 cents a quart worth the name
"racing oil" sure... it makes you go faster! at least in your mind it does)
