I just came from checking out a 66 Sprite for a long time friend who
always wanted one (since we were kids)
So we look, it's all there, runs, drives, stops, and the electrics work.
The speedo says 11,000 miles, but we figured 111,000 as it still worked.
After a carefull look over, we find no rust, original seats not ripped
but in need of new foam, they still have the carpet on the back. Shiny
windshield pillars, original muffler (still silver) origianl exhaust
mounts, no grease on the underside, and extremely nice chrome bumpers.
Then I see the inspection sticker on the windshield, it was due in April
of 1971.
The owner says he bought it in 71 and never touched it. He did not know
much about it.
So a 66 Sprite taken off the road in 71 means it is really a 6 year old
car stored for 30 years. So can this be a 11,000 mile Sprite?
It sure looks like it. Did they ever come with Firestone tires (bias
ply)?
No Dunlops, all Firestone.
And if my friend didn't buy it, I would have on the spot!
The Sprite from the barn. They are out there.
