How about wire recorders?  Every second rewind resulted in a 3' globe
of exploded, snarled wire that my dad would spend hours trying to
unsarl.  This, while mother would snarl about him wasting their hard
earned money on such a useless piece of junk.  It was a difficult
childhood!
