Diane and I took a ride out to Encounter (AHST) just because it was a
noce day for a top down drive. We bumped into Allen H, Al T, and George
Marinos from the list along with a bunch of other long time friends.
I did have a long chat with Rick Moses aka Mr. Sprite. He seems to still
be a bit burned out from Sprite Rush 98.
For those who do not know, Rick is/was the editor of Sprite Newsletter
ands the Global Sprite Registry. He has burned out! I can tell, heck,
you can see it!
But he did mention the 45th and 50th anniversarys of the Sprite. He
wants to do Sprite Spree 03 and his last will be something in 2008 for
the 50th. Then he says he will be too old. He does need help and that's
where the eastern US listers can help. He asked today for help as we
have about 2.5 years to go and it takes that long to plan, book, and
execute a meet of this size.
If there is going to be a meet in 03, we need volunteers now.
We also need ideas, a place, what month, which part of the country, and
most of all people who will take charge for each particular segment of
the meet.
Someone to book eateries, some one on a hotel, a rally master, autocross
master, some one to make arrangements for invited guests and their air
fare and ground transportation, printed materials, regalia, hospitality,
banquet, crafts, kids, name badges, swap meet, registration, and the
list goes on.
One man can not do it, let's say he will not do it for a 3rd time. He
also tried a bit of deligation in 98 but too much stuff was left til the
last minute and much of it never happened as planned.
So if you are good at any of the above things, volunteer! Do it NOW.
Let me know. I am the one who gets to kick things off and now is the
time to get it started. Remember, this is a thankless job you will be
volunteering for. If you mess up in the least, some one will let you
know. Think it thru, if you want to help, let me know (off the list) I
will compile a list of helpers and ideas and forward them to Rick. He is
open for suggestions. He mentioned something like a moving meet starting
in one place and touring maybe 100 miles to another place.
I personally didn't like the idea but it was *an idea* we need ideas,
input, help.
Think about it.
