Back to the floor pan removal.
If you are not cutting out the rockers, no support is needed.
Are you buying replacment pans or folding up some regular sheetmetal for
new floors? I have done both, just sheetmetal is a lot easier and can be
done from inside the car. Cut out the old along the sill and trans
tunnel, fold up a 1" lip around some 20 gauge metal and weld it to the
sill, rear bulkhead, tunnel, and cross member. Original? no. Solid? yes.
I fold it over a 2x4 with a hammer, you can "brake" metal fairly nice
this way.
