The first time I rebuilt my 1275, I used 'coppercoat' on one of the
copper gaskets from MM, and had nothing but problems with oil/water
leakage.
I replace it with a new 'fibre' gasket from MM (the one they say they
use on their own race engines) with no coating at all, and haven't had a
problem since. The current gasket I'm using was already precoated with a
silver plastic like material. I also followed Paul A's advice, and made
sure all surfaces on the block and head were absolutely clean and dry
and free of all oil residue.
