this whole debate / conversation on balancing is just way too funny!
balance is evrything! the better the balance the longer the engine will
survive and the smoother it will run. plain and simple, balance is
evrything! a balanced drive shaft, flywheel/clutch assembly, crankshaft,
piston rod assemblies, and front balancer, even wheels and tires!. all
rotating and reciprocating masses need to be balanced to one degree or
another. the higher degree of balance the higher the rpm it will withstand
before it disintegrates(either from exceeding it's limits of material
strength or finding the range that harmonics come into play and vibrate
itself to the point of catastrophic failure).
there are some basic ways to balance things. and there are some rocket
science types who have become near god like in their abilities to do highest
quality balance work. top notch work is not cheap, but it will pay off in
the long run. a smoother running car, a motor capeable of higher rpm(the
motor you can blow off a friend with and they wonder how you did it, if you
are still in the power band and not just spinning rpm's past making power) .

so it's really importaint! and how close to nirvana you get is relative to
how good your local expert is and how many rolls of pennies you posess in
the candy shop of life.

chuck
back to the rock again.
