I think the more correct name is "rain shield."  They do a pretty good job
of keeping the rotors dry when driving in the rain.  I guess in Tucsun you
wouldn't need them much.

Disc brake dust shields  -  Why do we have them?  Got a stone caught
between
the shield and the disc.  Made a lot of noise which would have been avoided
(?) if there wasn't a shield.  Any reason not to remove them?
