I have two questions to ask,
1st, for those on multiple lists, does anyone have the email address of
a Rick Hopton, I think he may be on the 'B list.
2nd. I had a bit of a bomb dropped on me tonight. The Bugeye that was
semi-restored and sitting in the back of a building full of restored
cars, this is the one I mentioned that the guy wouldn't ever drive it
again but he didn't want to sell it. It is being offered to me. It was
last on the road in 89, so I know that all of the caveats apply as far
as the mechanicals go. The body looks fairly straight but it is missing
the bumperettes in the back and the grill is missing the top wide chrome
part so it is set into the grill opening. The seats look original and
are untorn, the seat bottom on the passenger side was even unrusted,
didn't raise the drivers side. The steering wheel is aftermarket. It is
supposed to have a hardtop for it across town in another building. It is
supposed to be the original engine, the tires are flat and it is up
against a wall where I can't raise the bonnet (hush Ed) without hitting
the front marker lamp lenses on the sheet rock. So.... A restorable
pretty complete, I am guessing not to far off of original, didn't check
for drum brakes........ this guy is a nice guy and when he tells me his
price I hope I don't pass out from fear of heights, BUT---- what would
be a good ballpark to expect to pay for a car similar to what I
described (Frank, your price doesn't count since you always get your
cars free) I know that without seeing the car personally, also the area
that you are in bugeyes may be more or less than the going market. I
just want a round figure to have in my head to at least counter offer if
I need to. Also, if I don't get this one, (I still have my RHD project),
I could start a list of SERIOUS interested listers. Anyway, this is how
I spent my Monday evening.
