Charge the battery (or hook it up like you are trying to jump start it). 
 Nice spark?  Good, you got lucky.  

If not, try swapping in a known good coil (you can yank it from another 
car, no need to buy one for testing purposes).  

If you get a nice fat spark again, go buy a new coil and be grateful.  

Otherwise, it's likely the Pertronix unit.
