The plot thickens -- or, rather, loosens.
The play at the pinch bolt is gone, but there is
still play in the steering.
The steering column, between the toe plate (at the car body),
and the pinch bolt at the rack, is in 2 telescoping pieces.
The lower piece, from the pinch bolt up about half way to
where it comes thru the body is smaller in diameter,
and seems to telescope into the larger diameter piece
that continues on up thru the car body. Where the 2
tubes/shafts overlap there is a trace of play.
