Chuck,

Ref: "Le Mans Classic"... I would imagine shipping your car to France and
back would cost at least $3000 each way... may be more... best would be to
have a container or half container (if that's big enough!) and ship
everything together- car, spares, tools... and it would take a long time
(weeks). Could you ship it to the track? What about customs formalities? If
you can avoid it, you do NOT want to go and collect the car at the port, but
let the shipping company deal with all paperwork and deliver you the car
where you need it.

If you wanted a rental car or van, reserve it in the US- usually way
cheaper... You can also have plane/rental car/train travel deals... You
could fly to Paris, and then take a TGV (High Speed Train- goes up to 288
mph!) from Paris to Le Mans, then pick up a rental car/van there.

By the way, in the sad case you bent your race car, you would have to ship
it back promptly- or face hassles with customs and taxes for "importing"
your car into France.

Hotels and meals would not be a problem- you can eat well and find hotels at
very reasonable cost... especially if you know where to go, or more
importantly, where NOT to... Gas is expensive (try $5.00 or so a gallon).

Sounds like that trip could be a once in a lifetime though!

Hope you make it.
