Fatigue, rust, british steel...  either way you need to replace them.  If
you are concerned and others look suspicious the change them all.  Usually a
good shot with a heavy hammer will pop the old ones out.  Just be sure the
stud has the clearance behind it to fall out, you don't want to smack it
into the brakes.  To reinstall just insert the new stud and find a nut a
little bigger than the stud to put between the axle and lug nut then tighten
until the stud is in all the way.  Should be no real trouble for a "newbie".
