One the advice of a Vizard book and a conversation with David Anton at APT,
I recurved a spridget dizzy to give 15 deg total advance, all in by 3000
RPM. I used springs from a "Box-O-Springs" from the local hardware store.
The dizzy machine showed a smooth application of advance starting at 800 rpm
and increasing until maxed at about 3K. Back on the car the results were
obvious.

I've been able to return to the suggested 7deg BTDC advance, put in a much
leaner needle, smooth out the idle, and best of all...... it gets up off
the line and COOKS! Air /fuel guage says all is good, and the mileage is
seriously improved.

Moral of the story, find a thirsty buddy with a dizzy machine and ply them
with beer. It may pay off nicely. The stock springs on many distributors
are chosen for a variety of reasons, with performance seldom at the top of
the list. Mine wasn't giving full advance until about 5K. OK for smog
maybe, poor for whoopee. Live and learn.

PS to Gerard,
the only dizzy I care about is finished, come and get this sucker!
